Overview
From its early beginnings as wasteland belonging to the Royal Manor of Kings Norton, through its popularity as a healthy and tranquil setting for the new homes of the prosperous businessmen of the nineteenth century, away from the grime of their factories and foundries, to its present status as a flourishing shopping centre and site of the prestigious Britannic Park development, Kings Heath has grown and changed with the times. Now it can boast many attractions and its easy access to both the City Centre and the nearby countryside make it a popular place in which to live, work or shop. Kings Heath has a wide selection of shops, excellent schools, including two of the Grammar Schools of the King Edward Foundation, and three public parks which are all different and all equally attractive.
Its Public Library, a fine Victorian building, was paid for by the American philanthropist Andrew Carnegie and is the base for the thriving Local History Society. Nearby Highbury Hall, once the home of the famous Chamberlain family, is now the venue for civic events and weddings.
Kings Heath has a variety of different pubs, that should cater for
most tastes, many of which offer entertainment and good food. There are
also well attended churches, local Police
and Fire Stations,a Leisure
Centre, Golf
clubs and a very modern indoor Tennis
Centre.The neighbouring Moseley
Rugby Club and Edgbaston County
Cricket Ground, home to Warwickshire Cricket Club, and venue for many
Test and Cup matches, attract large numbers of visitors from both far and
wide.
