Park Hall Hotel, Wolverhampton - Review

Park Hall Hotel is a privately owned 3 star hotel, and a grade 2 listed building, set in 5 acres of grounds.

It was formerly the ancestral home of the noble family of Dudley and Ward until 1757 when it became a catholic school, Sedgley Park School,  founded by Bishop Challoner. In 1891 the Earl of Dudley took over the house as part of a State settlement and his family lived there for many years until Grigg and Brettell Brewery eventually bought the building in 1947 from which date Park Hall has continued to run as a hotel. It is now part of the Ramada group.

As you might expect from this glimpse in to its history, the hotel is a lovely building which has been sympathetically restored to include the modern features one would expect in a hotel nowadays. A welcoming and attractive reception and foyer lead on to a well appointed lounge/bar area. All 75 of its comfortable rooms are en-suite with bath and shower and have satellite television, hospitality tray, direct dial telephone, Internet access (including wireless Broadband), trouser press, radio and hairdryer.

A full range of meeting and syndicate rooms are available, suitable for up to 700 guests and the hotel makes an ideal setting for both Wedding Receptions and Civil Ceremonies, Dinner Dances and Parties.

Despite being so near to the city, Park Hall has the feel of a tranquil country house. The grounds are attractive and provide a peaceful setting in which to unwind after your business event or day spent shopping in Wolverhampton or nearby Birmingham, or visiting the many tourist attractions the region has to offer.

There is ample free very secure parking available.

The hotel offers two excellent restaurants : the original hotel restaurant which offers a wide choice of traditional fayre and The Kavi Indian Restaurant which is also open to the public. An excellent breakfast was served in this sophisticated room with its black and white decor.

Virtually everything you could imagine in a full English breakfast was included here - and a lot more besides. (As  good a breakfast as I've had anywhere) Service is buffet - style except for tea and coffee which are served by efficient staff and the atmosphere is relaxed - an ideal way to start the day. This is all included in the price of the room.

In the evening, we ate in the Kavi restaurant and were impressed with its stylish decor, excellent service and extensive menu of beautifully cooked and presented dishes. There was something to suit all tastes here and this comparatively new restaurant deserves to do well.

All in all, very good value indeed without the feel of a bland hotel that is part of a large chain and done to a set formula.
